Ah, the Rain Shot… These are technical shots with water trucks, equipped with fire hoses and special camera housings. The black vehicle was rigged which you can see on the base shot if you go to my site. Some of the challenges were removing the rig but keeping the small rooster tail spray off the rear tires, making sure that the rain intensity and direction remained constant, and an image extension to the left. I love the realism of this shot. Usually, a retoucher adds in fake looking rain after the fact and it’s typically a one dimensional layer the goes over the top. Here we get to see the water accumulation on the road, the spray that comes off the roof and out from the tires and of course that actual water droplets on the vehicles. At the end, even after some flattening, I still ended up with 121 layers.
